Sorry, 90’s minimalism, you’ve had your fun. For the past year or two, it seems like every it girl has embraced black body suits, chokers, mom jeans, and, of course, those reflective round aviator sunglasses that seem to be everywhere. While the trend is still going strong (here’s looking at you Kendall, Gigi, and Hailey), celebrities and fashion’s elite are embracing a new aesthetic:

You can thank the sartorial genius Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s current Creative Director, for this breath of fresh air. The designer’s cool-meets-geeky, vintage-inspired, more is more approach has rendered some of this year’s most exciting and talked about collections. And, as a result, we’re predicting one of 2017’s most popular aesthetics. Sequins? Check. Embroidery? Check. Ruffles? You know it. Bows, rose broaches, loud prints? Heck yes! You name it and it was probably featured in one of Gucci’s 2016 collections. And that’s just how we like it. There seems to be a little something for everyone, drawing nostalgia from multiple decades and locations while maintaining it’s own unique… je ne sais quoi?

Seeing Red: You Can’t Be Mad at This Week’s Romantic Looks

Normally, when we think of the color red, words that might come to mind are along the lines of “passion”, “action”, or “anger”. Color psychology associated with red represents “our most physical needs and our will to survive. It exudes a strong and powerful masculine energy.”

But, let us introduce you to the softer side of red. This look has been spotted multiples over the last week, especially at Cannes. Florals, naval stripes, and hints of nude and blush have been keeping things romantic, feminine, and, dare we say, soft?

Red is a classic color that never goes out of style, but with its current popularity, now is the perfect time to design something of your own in the timeless shade.

Kate Middleton’s Boho Chic Style & This Week’s Best in Bohemian Dresses

Spring is in the air, and unsurprisingly, so are floral dresses! Soft and airy dresses in floral prints really aren’t a new concept. Heck, it’s been a spring stable for close to a century. But, this spring, floral has an especially strong hold on our hearts. Exhibit A. Kate Middleton’s tour of India:

Oh, just another day playing cricket or feeding a baby rhino in a stunning bohemian gown; delicate, globally-inspired jewelry; and effortless, perfectly-waved hair. Kate Middleton is living the dream.

Lady Gaga     These days, no one merges the worlds of fashion, art, and music quite like Lady Gaga. Love it or hate it, her style is always memorable, imaginative, and conceptual. We’re not certain what her MyWearStore would consist of (meat? Teacups? Fishnets??) The only thing we’re sure of is that it wouldn’t get lost in a crowd, just like Mother Monster herself!

Rupaul

RuRaul is glorious in all forms and pronouns! From his one-of-a-kind, custom suits to her elaborate, jaw-dropping gowns, RuPaul packs a serious punch of positivity and thoughtfulness to whatever he does (and wears). We imagine his store being full of form-fitting, cheerful apparel in poppy colors.

Beyoncé

Because, duh.

Yayoi Kusama      Japanese born writer and mind-blowing multi-media artist Yayoi Kusama’s  collection would not disappoint. We could probably expect her MyWearStore to feature lots of psychedelic colors, trippy never-ending prints, and patterns that rival a Magic Eye book.

Prince

Sure, there’s a high likelihood that Prince’s MyWearStore would have some purple garb, maybe some skin-tight bell bottoms. But, we’re also guessing he’d surprise us with a few items. If his MyWearStore were anything like the contents in his fridge, we’d be in for a slightly confusing and delightful treat. 18 shades of mustard tunics perhaps?

Jaden Smith       Jaden Smith is another trend setter that’s waaay ahead of his time. Not only is Jaden’s style elevated well beyond his 17 years, it’s also pushing ahead of society’s current fashion norms. The tunic he wore to prom being just one example.  We imagine him designing a MyWear® line of unisex clothing in futuristic colors and sustainable materials.

Bjork

Bjork is so much more than that dang swan dress. Similarly to how she uses her voice, fashion is a tool for pure artistic expression. Although we can’t predict what her collection might look like, we could almost guarantee it would be awe-inspiring, just like her!

Janelle Monáe       It’s easy to imagine Janelle’s MyWearStore being filled with a plethora of fun suits and black and white attire, but it’s the story behind her style that’s the most inspiring:

“When I started my musical career, I was a maid,” “My parents, my mother was a proud janitor. My stepfather, who raised me like his very own, worked at the post office and my father was a trash man — they all wore uniforms. And that’s why I stand here today in my black and white and I wear my uniform to honor them.”

Janelle also reminds the media and those who criticize her suited style that she’s “not for male consumption”, encouraging girls to “embrace what makes you unique, even if it makes others uncomfortable.”

Beth Ditto      Beth Ditto is another style chameleon, but one element of her fashion remains consistent: Her looks are always fearless, creative, and inspired. We know her MyWearStore would be an extension of her already amazing sense of style: unexpected, fun, and unapologetic.

Marina Abramović      Marina is arguably the most famous performance artist of our time. Possibly less know, though, is her passion for fashion. It wasn’t until after her piece The Great Wall Walk (and a heartbreaking breakup) that she began to embrace fashion, but since then, Marina has become a style icon in her own right, even co-art directing for Givenchy. Although we’re not sure what statement Marina would make with her MyWearStore, we’re sure her marriage of art and fashion would be a show stopper.

MyWear My Way: Lupita Nyong’o’s SAG Awards Head Turner

It’s no surprise that Lupita Lyong stunned at the  21st Annual Screen Actors Guild on Sunday. The floor length Elie Saab gown was just the right amount romantic, moody, and modern… a sure fire way to land on everyone’s best dressed list for the evening.

I fell in love with this print and knew immediately that I wanted to make an affordable MyWear version. But, upon some internet investigation, found the real kicker: Lupita loved it so much, she wore the same print in the fit’ n flare version to an after party!

In a day and age when After Party means “costume change!” and an opportunity to wear a second showstopper, arriving in the same exact print takes real dedication.

Lupita’s loyalty to this Ellie Saab Pre-Fall 2015 stunner tells me that this style is going to be EVERYWHERE. I had already predicted we’d be seeing moody, romantic pieces and stripes this next year, but having a fashion icon like Lupita confirm it x2 makes me want to scream, “I told you so!!!” from the hilltops (<yeah, I have some issues to work through).

I created a soft, almost pixilated-looking floral print in Photoshop and then added black stripes. Voilà; Lupita’s look for less… or rather looks!

MyWear My Way: Nicole Richie’s Bevy of Blossoms & Stripes

Spring is just around the corner and, if you’re anything like me, you’re busy lobbying and bribing all the groundhogs out there with bark and apples in the hope we can get this show on the road! Late January seems to set off an internal alarm in most of us that says we’ve officially had it with winter and are ready to embrace warm weather… and the fun, poppy fashion that goes along with it! When I came across this stunner Nicole Richie wore on a red carpet I knew I needed it in my life. I cannot think of a better way to celebrate spring than with a combination of delicate blossoms and bright, sporty stripes.

Because the real deal is out of the question, as this is probably thousands of dollars, I made my own interpretation via LaunchMyWear!

I started by creating a stripe pattern in Photoshop:

Next, I found floral patterns to work off, adding flowers by copying and pasting layers in Photoshop. I made a second layer of the design and flipped horizontally to create a floral peter pan collar:

Finally, I uploaded the files to LaunchMyWear and applied the floral print to the collar and the stripes to the skirt and hemline only. I kept the top bright white.

After publishing my dress, it’s ready for purchase. Not only for myself, but anyone who wants to buy or customize their own on MyWearStore.com! Now, please, Spring… hurry up!
